Description
Monte Meraviglia is the mountain that towers over Cascia to the south, up the slopes of which the panoramic road leading to Monteleone climbs steeply.
Mt. Meraviglia together with Mt. Pizzo is the dorsal of what has to be considered as one large group coloured by wooded valleys, hills and mountains that are typical of an environment that will take you into close contact with the most authentic nature of the Apennines.
Access to the vast group is possible in various directions; one road goes straight up to the summit of Mt. Meraviglia from Ponte Cuccare; from Onelli a mule track leads as far as Forca Tetella passing through woods, meadows and on the steep crags of Fonte della Valle; from Cascia there is a large number of paths. The numerous valleys that scar the massif face mainly from south to north, whereas the forests of Mt. Meraviglia are mostly oak-hornbeam and durmast oak that alternate with wide, open spaces that have either been cultivated or left as natural pastureland.
An Oasis for the Protection of Wild Life has been established on the group of Mt. Meraviglia that stretches for 1,200 hectares.
